Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) in Mishawaka and South Bend, Indiana
Endovenous laser treatment (also known as endovenous laser ablation or EVLT) is a highly effective treatment for varicose veins. This FDA-approved alternative to surgical vein stripping is performed at our Mishawaka location. It requires a small needle stick into the affected vein, through which a laser fiber is inserted. As pulses of light are delivered inside the vein by the laser system, the vein collapses and is sealed shut. Eventually, the vein shrinks and is absorbed by the body.
The procedure is typically very well tolerated and only requires the use of local anesthesia with or without a mild sedative. Following the procedure, your leg is wrapped in compression hose and you can resume normal activities. The cost of endovenous laser treatment is generally covered by insurance. Call our team at (574) 272-5347 and we’ll help you know if the endovenous laser treatment cost is covered by your insurance plan.
What To Expect During EVLT Procedure at Legacy Vein Clinic
Your leg will be numbed and our board-certified vascular expert will place a laser fiber into the diseased veins under ultrasound guidance. The laser fiber is less than one millimeter. The laser fiber is then heated to close the diseased vein. Once closed, strong veins will then take over the role of circulating blood towards the heart.
The EVLT vein treatment is done in our office, takes around 15 minutes and you are able to resume normal immediately after treatment.
Benefits of EVLT
- No scars
- High success rate
- Minimal recovery time
